The municipalities of the Cesar mining corridor, i.e., Becerril, El Paso and La Jagua de Ibirico, as well as other territories of the department, such as Valledupar, Codazzi, Pueblo Bello and San Alberto, have a group of pre-candidates who have been preparing to build integral and efficient government programmes that respond to the needs of their territories, with sustainability vision.
The workshop was made possible thanks to the partnership between the Prodeco Group and the United Nations Development Program – UNDP, with the participation of representatives of the inter-institutional strategy ‘I Choose to Know’, integrated by the National Planning Department, Public Duty, the National Electoral Council, the Higher School of Public Administration and the UNDP.
Two program included two days of capacity building so that the candidates could acquire the tools to address their electoral campaigns and build participatory, qualified government programmes in line with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, to support the municipal articulation with the National Development Plan and the national and global goals to comply with the 2030 Agenda.
During the training days, participants were also able to reflect on the most appropriate options to move towards the economic diversification of territories that are highly dependent on mining activity.
At the end of the programme, the 22 candidates to the municipal mayors signed a pact for nonviolence, ethics and electoral transparency. This promotes a participatory, informed and transparent electoral period.
