Grupo Prodeco Inaugurates Fish Farm Project in El Paso, Cesar

On February 28, Grupo Prodeco, together with the Governor’s Office of Cesar and the Mayor of El Paso, opened a fish farm project, to strengthen the artisanal fishermen of that municipality.
This project located in the El Rocío land, on the road to La Loma, will allow the generation of income, employability and food security of the participating families of the program that will develop actions for the production and commercialization of red tilapia and larvae of the native bocachico species for repopulation purposes.
The farm was inaugurated with the symbolic planting of 25 thousand red tilapia fingerlings and has 18 installed geomembrane ponds.
According to Francisco Ovalle Angarita, governor of Cesar, the project is the result of an effort of wills. "Today we have this project as a result of a public-private alliance, constituted with Prodeco, the Governor’s Office of Cesar, and the Mayor of El Paso municipality. It is a common fund of 1,524 million pesos to give life to a productive project, "he said.
From the total investment, the contribution from the departmental government was $ 300 million pesos.
For his part, Hidalfo De la Cruz, mayor of El Paso, expressed his gratitude to Grupo Prodeco for "this great project, which will guarantee the production of fish for 50 families of El Paso municipality".
For Nicolás Gómez, manager of Sustainability of Prodeco, the farm is a project that shows that mining and agricultural issues are not incompatible, but on the contrary allies: "Here we are precisely doing a fish project, where the idea is to produce six tons per month, "he said, adding that" Indeed, it is a bet that Prodeco continues to make for the country side and the development of the region".
Finally, Charlie Maestre, vice president of the fishermen association Asopraps, that benefits from the project, said: "We are very grateful for the compensation in form of the project that we are doing today. We are already beginning to see its fruits and many families are going to be benefited".
