06|10|2016

Puerto Nuevo, the port terminal of the Prodeco Group, joined efforts with company volunteers to support victims left behind by Hurricane Matthew during the weekend, which brought a public calamity to Magdalena, especially in Guacamayal, Aracataca, Fundación, Algarrobo and Zona Bananera.

Over 500 mattresses, diapers, water, personal care items, plus hundreds of groceries have been donated by the company to date. Meanwhile, employees who are part of the Prodeco Group volunteer team have donated clothes and food, which were delivered early Wednesday to affected populations. Also, Puerto Nuevo employees in Cienaga decided to offer their support by cleaning several flooded homes and schools in the town of Guacamayal, and delivered more than 900 bags of water for the inhabitants.

This humanitarian response plan is provided together with the Colombian Civil Defense and the Magdalena Governor’s Office, both of which have been present since the first moments of the emergency after Hurricane Matthew swept threw.

“Faced with this tragedy, we could not remain indifferent to our neighboring communities, which is why the company and its employees, individually, decided to do our bit to help alleviate this terrible situation,” said Darren Thompson, Manager of Puerto Nuevo.
