SUSTAINABILITY

ECONOMIC DIVERSIFICATION

Beyond mining

Economic Diversification and Entrepreneurship

Our objective is that the communities generate income through the creation and maximization of productive projects to improve the quality of life of the communities in our area of influence, in order to minimize the economic dependence on mining activities.

Center for Entrepreneurship and Employability - CEMPRENDE

The Prodeco Group, in partnership with the Valledupar Chamber of Commerce, launched the Cemprende strategy, an initiative that came to Cesar to contribute to the actions for the productive transformation of the department, through entrepreneurship or employability in sectors other than mining.

Cemprende, has been operating since 2016 in the mining corridor of Cesar promoting the productivity of the communities of La Jagua de Ibirico, El Paso and Becerril.  More than 1,800 people have participated in this ecosystem that offers employment and entrepreneurship opportunities, through an offer of technical training and professional support so that users can develop their productive potential.

FISH FARMING PROJECTS

We reactivated the fish farming projects in the municipalities of El Paso, La Jagua de Ibirico and Becerril, in order to promote the productive reconversion of the region beyond mining and generate income for 97 families of artisanal fishermen, through the production and marketing of red tilapia.

Three associations that bring together artisanal fishermen and their families are the leaders of this process: ASOPRAPS, in the municipality of El Paso; APETOSCA, in La Jagua de Ibirico; and ASOPAAB, in the municipality of Becerril.

As part of the reactivation, we donated resources for the repair and maintenance of the infrastructure where the fish farms will operate, and we also financed a technical, economic and operational feasibility study for each project, in order to identify opportunities for improvement to ensure the sustainability of the businesses. Prodeco will also finance operational expenses until the project is self-sustaining.

AGRICULTURAL PROJECTS

In 2022, with the assistance of an expert consultant, Prodeco conducted a productive diagnosis with the ASOPROPASO (El Paso), ASOJAGUAIB (La Jagua) and ASOBEMPRE (Becerril) associations, for the reformulation of the productive project, including the technical, financial and operational review.

As a result of these efforts, an agricultural project was structured based on the livestock activity and a complementary component consisting of the development of a corn crop and a cost grass crop as a protein bank for the livestock activity.
These projects will receive specialized technical assistance during their setup and implementation.

BEEKEEPING PROJECTS

In August 2022, Prodeco signed an agreement with the Development and Peace Corporation of Cesar, for the implementation of a project that would allow the recovery of strategic ecosystems in the middle and upper zone of the Tucuy and Sororia rivers, and contribute to the economic sustainability of the families of La Victoria de San Isidro, municipality of La Jagua de Ibirico.

The resources provided by the Prodeco Group have been invested in the development of a productive conservation beekeeping project for the production of honey and other products derived from the hive.
