La Jagua Mine
Highly volatile thermal coal
La Jagua is an open-pit coal mine in the municipality of La Jagua de Ibirico, Cesar. It consists of five mining concessions held by three companies:
- Carbones de La Jagua SA
- Consorcio Minero Unido SA
- Carbones El Tesoro SA
Glencore has now purchased all three companies and integrated them into one, with approval from the relevant authorities.
La Jagua produces low-sulphur, high-energy thermal coal. The crushed coal is transported to the coal handling facilities at Calenturitas by truck, where it is loaded onto railcars and transported to Puerto Nuevo, our port in Ciénaga, Magdalena.
