The Prodeco Group ratifies its commitment with the protection and respect of human rights in el Cesar
Together with representatives of the National and Regional Government, the private companies and of the civil society, Prodeco Group participated in the signing of the Joint Declaration of Rejection of threats to the life and integrity of persons, reaffirming its commitment with the promotion and respect of human rights in the Cesar Department.
The document that was signed on June 7 2018, is the result of the work carried out by the Human Rights and Coal Work Team, comprised by the Presidential Advisory on Human Rights, the Ministry of Mines and Energy, the National Mining Agency and the Mining Corridor Companies of Cesar and La Guajira, the Foundation Ideas for Peace, led by the Regional Center of Companies and Responsible Entrepreneurship.
The event, that was carried out at the Cesar Department, was attended by Paula Gaviria, Presidential Advisor for Human Rights; Vanessa Coronado, Director of the Environmental & Social Matters Office of the Ministry of Mines; Floris Van Eijk, Representative of the Dutch Embassy in Colombia; Francisco Ovalle, Cesar Governor; Luis Fernando de Angulo, Executive Director of the Regional Center of Companies and Responsible Entrepreneurship – CREER; Maria Victoria Llorente, Executive Director of the Foundation Ideas for Peace; Mark McManus, President of the Prodeco Group and representatives of Drummond, Cerrejón and CNR Companies.
“For Prodeco it is highly satisfactory to participate in this initiative; for us the respect and promotion of Human Rights is an essential core value. This is an exercise in which we are working together as an industry in spite of the fact that we are competitors (…) Yesterday was a very important day for us because we publicly demonstrated our commitment with the protection of human rights defenders and we are pleased to be part of this declaration” indicated the Prodeco Group President, Mr. Mark McManus, who also highlighted that achieving this joint declaration was hard work, but it was possible thanks to the intervention of important social actors.
By signing this Declaration, the Prodeco Group reaffirms its leadership from the private sector with this initiative that seeks to implement actions and mechanisms for the protection and respect of the lives and integrity of people; especially social leaders and defenders of Human Rights in the Cesar Department.
