Tuesday, May 21, 2019. Prodeco Group participated in the event organized by the community of the Estados Unidos Village where the Estados Unidos Strategic Development Plan (2018-2040) was launched.
The event took place today in the main square of Estados Unidos and was attended by Juan Francisco Rojas, Mayor of Becerril; Mark McManus, President of Prodeco and Amaury Padilla, Director of the Program of Peace and Development of Cesar. Representatives of Social Prosperity; the Agency for the Reincorporation and Normalization; the Truth Commission; the National Center of Historical Memory; the National Federation of Coffee Growers, community associations; NGOs and special guests were also present.
In his speech, Mark McManus, President of Prodeco, stated that the company believes that these type of alliances with communities, local authorities and institutions can help make the difference and contribute to the consolidation of territorial peace.
McManus said that by witnessing and supporting the Declaration of Compliance, Prodeco expresses its solidarity with a community that has been impacted by the armed conflict, and took the opportunity to “reiterate that Prodeco firmly rejects all threats and acts of violence against the life and integrity of any person, particularly the stigmatization of leaders of victims’ organizations and unions in Cesar”.
According to Juan Francisco Rojas, Mayor of Becerril, with this Development Plan the inhabitants of Estados Unidos are realizing their dreams, since they are the main beneficiaries of the programs and infrastructure improvements that have resulted from public-private partnerships.
"Today we are demonstrating that the public and the private can work hand in hand (...) Thanks to the company Prodeco, who trusted us and as we have always stated, we have made an excellent partnership with the company Prodeco to be able to bring investments to the Estados Unidos village", said the Mayor.
On his part, Erasmo Villar, local leader of Estados Unidos, expressed his satisfaction with the presentation of the Strategic Plan and thanked Prodeco for the work done, based on the trust and its approach of good neighbor committed to welfare of the community. "Prodeco has contributed 80-90% of the result of what we have today," said the leader.
Finally, during his speech, Amaury Padilla, Director of the PDPC, recalled how this exercise of trust was achieved thanks to the tenacity of the community to move forward and build their own Plan for the future. "Before arriving here there was a prior agreement that was made with Prodeco. From Prodeco, we called the Mayor, the Governor’s Office and the institutions, so we could have an offer of what to do jointly", said Padilla.
Since 2018, in partnership with the Cesar Development and Peace Program –PDPC, Prodeco has been supporting the community of Estados Unidos, in the strengthening of its community associations with the project "Strengthening of Social and Business Organizations for the Sustainable Integral Development of the Estados Unidos village".
The Strategic Local Development Plan is the result of the participative process of training and mediation carried out by several actors of the community following the methodology suggested by the PDPC and accepted by the community. As the document reads, the Plan is “an important tool that will facilitate the processes of planning, management and political advocacy, fundamental for the empowerment of the community in search of its own development. It is the navigation chart to facilitate dialogue between the actors present in the territory and the community”.
The event included the granting of seed capital to business initiatives of Estados Unidos through the C-Emprende program, and a cultural presentation with the participation of the “Voces de la Esperanza” choir, operated by Batuta National Foundation with the sponsorship of Prodeco, and other cultural performances.
